Fiber Designer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop designs and drive the execution of aerial and underground fiber networks, backbone, and lateral builds on time and within the approved budget.
2. Perform route analysis and develop aerial and underground fiber route maps.
3. Create and track infrastructure solution planning that includes Dark Fiber, Data Center, and Network Operations solutions.
4. Responsible for daily management of communications with vendors to expedite the construction and splicing of OSP facilities. Also, identify issues and provide solutions to ensure that timelines are met and not negatively impacted.
5. Point of contact with carriers, subcontractors, and vendors. Foster partnerships with carriers/ vendors/ stakeholders and attend meetings as necessary on-field and travel to construction sites.
6. Coordinate infrastructure projects execution for various phases[initiate to close] of each project and facilitate the alignment between internal and external resources to ensure deadlines are consistently met.
7. Timely updated and keep track of service orders, fiber splicing assignments, project status, budget, and documentation.
8. Provide bi-weekly reports of the status of the projects and services orders to communicate the overall progress.
9. Develop and implement procedures to improve areas of opportunity within key initiatives, which require extensive collaboration with management, construction, fiber, headend, and field engineers.
10. Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Systems, Computer Science or Systems & Network Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 5 years’ specialized telecommunications technical expertise with outside plant, fiber optics, networks architecture.
• Proficient in Google Earth, AutoCad , Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
• At least 3 years of hands-on/field experience designing and constructing Outside Plant Copper and Fiber Optic Cable (UG, Aerial, Buried, BICS) and manhole and conduit design.
• Ability to use advanced test equipment like OTDRs, optical power meters and other fiber testing equipment as required
• SCTE certification is a plus
