What are the responsibilities and job description for the Triage Diesel Technician position at Housby Mack, Inc.?
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Housby is seeking an entry-level triage diesel technician to be the first contact in our Service Shop to troubleshoot incoming units for repair. This position is responsible for completing accurate diagnosis and completing minor repairs in a timely fashion, along with presenting high level issues to lead technicians for repair and/or replacement of major components.

FOCUS:
- Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions and failures of engine systems and other mechanical components.
- Identify cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps and failure analysis.
- Correct vehicle deficiencies by replacing, repairing, and adjusting parts. This may include disassembly of major components, subcomponents or systems.
- Install oil pans, fan hubs, brakes, along with change out or recharge batteries.
- Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on vehicle units, and make adjustments as needed.
- Lubricate moving parts and perform drive testing on repaired vehicles to verify conformance to specifications.
- Perform repairs within given timeline.
- Document repairs performed on each repair order via computer.
- Complete repairs that will possibly be paid by warranty and save and tag parts, with the work order number, and place into warranty area.
- Properly dispose of any fluids.
- Clean work bay when repairs are complete.
- Follow general safety rules for each job. Ear/eye protection, leather boots, safety cages, etc.
- Must supply tools to make job as efficient as possible.
- Complete continuing education courses, as needed.
- Maintain a professional image at all times.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to use diagnostic software and read schematics.
- 1-2 years of relevant work experience in a diesel related field.
- Must have a valid driver's license, with clean driving record and dependable transportation.
- Class A or B CDL is highly preferred. (Company will assist employee to comply)
- Possess a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- General computer skills.
- Must have and follow Housby's core values.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Diesel related degree is preferred.
- Willing to continue education as directed is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to view a computer monitor.
- Alpha/numeric keyboarding.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Standing, climbing, stooping, squatting, walking, and reaching for long periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The work environment for this position is varied due to the differences in our work site. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical, vibrations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic and outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud.
- Works indoors and out. Exposed to outside weather.
COMPENSATION:
- $18.00 to $24.00 per hour (Based on experience)
- 120 Hours of PTO after your first full year of employment.
