Housing Inspector and Coordinator

The Housing Assistance Program of Essex County, Inc. is hiring a full-time Housing Inspector and Coordinator.

This position is responsible for performing Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections and for the documentation of the eligibility, recertification and tracking for our HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher clients in Essex County.

HAPEC is looking for a highly organized, compassionate individual that is interested in making a difference and enjoys being out in the community serving as Housing Inspector and Coordinator. We will train the right candidate.

Responsibilities Include:

• Schedules and conducts Housing Quality Standards inspections throughout the county
• Evaluates and documents housing conditions for rental assistance clients
• Works with renters to explain Housing Choice Voucher program
• Collects re-certification information, including income and any other required documentation
• Accurately enters data into appropriate databases
• Assists with preparing reports

Desired qualifications:

• Associate’s degree, and/or considerable experience in counseling low-income individuals and families receiving governmental aid.
• Must enjoy working with people and be patient in helping them solve their housing related problems.
• Must have a valid driver license, a good driving record and meet all state insurance requirements
• Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Inspector Certification required within 3 weeks of hire and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program Certification required within 6 months.
