Our state-of-the-art investment casting facility in LaPorte, Indiana is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our team. Nestled halfway between South Bend and Chicago, along the shores of Lake Michigan - our facility in LaPorte, Indiana supplies jet engine components to some of the most trusted names in the Aerospace industry.
The Engineer Facility position is responsible for the maintenance, design, and installation of the location facility equipment, building and grounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain existing equipment and modify as need to provide consistent operations
- Design, install/ modify new equipment as dictated by the operations/facilities.
- Conduct basic interpretations of drawings of all disciplines, codes, and similar materials.
- Create or update existing 2D & 3D models of mechanical parts or systems using Autodesk software.
- Collaborate with maintenance, electrical engineers, process engineers, safety engineers, and other disciplines in the coordination of mechanical system upgrades / installs.
- Perform engineering calculations to analyze and design systems using industry standard tools and software.
- Assist with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
- Perform field work to verify existing conditions of equipment, and support maintenance personal.
- Assist with collecting data and gathering information to support equipment improvement needs.
- Oversee contracted services as needed for equipment installs, modifications & repairs.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the Facilities Engineering Manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, formulates, designs and administers various engineered projects and programs related to traditional manufacturing facilities infrastructure and production equipment
- Determines new production equipment or modifications to existing equipment
- Works with suppliers and contractors on procurement of production equipment and infrastructure support; tests newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specifications
- Provide maintenance engineering and troubleshooting assistance
- Generate contract scope of work documents and cost estimates
- Oversee contractor work and monitor safe work practices
- Maintain and improve equipment OEE
- Maintain and improve design of equipment
- Performs other work related duties as assigned
EDUCATION:
- BS degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering Technology
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, basic understanding of electrical controls systems is a plus.
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas to peers and senior staff.
- Basic understanding of Inventor and AutoCAD and their use as a drafting and design tool; proficiency a plus.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to receive direction, follow process and adopt feedback and suggestions from senior staff.
- Proficiency with Office 365.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Basic understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical control systems in a diverse industrial environment
- Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
- Familiarity with a wide variety of facility infrastructure systems
- Ability to rapidly grasp concepts and understand processes
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to prioritize work assignments
EXPERIENCE:
- 10 years experience, preferably in an industrial/manufacturing environment - experience in facilities or plant engineering a plus.
