Job Summary:
The tax analyst prepares and reviews a variety of tax related documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare state withholding and entity tax compliance including, preparing quarterly estimates and extensions returns, working with outside consultants and internal accounting personnel.
- Prepare and compile book to tax differences for federal tax purposes including depreciation expense, intangible amortization, research and experimentation capitalization, UNICAP and other federal schedule M-3 adjustments.
- Assist with the preparation of federal and state partnership tax returns working with outside consultants and internal accounting personnel.
- Prepare income tax extensions and returns for Hood subsidiaries, and other miscellaneous tax returns throughout the year as necessary (i.e. unclaimed property, annual reports, goods and service tax, sales and uses tax).
- Compile detailed tax audits information for federal and state income taxes, sales/use tax, and unclaimed property audits including gathering data, generating schedules, providing support to the auditor, scheduling plant visits and audit meetings,
- Provide sales/use tax support for plant personnel in various states, including tax research, exemption forms, and notification of tax law
- Prepare property tax compliance for plant locations in various states by analyzing fixed asset listings, modifying schedules as necessary, preparing tax credits reports, tracking and assuring the payment of quarterly real and personal property tax payments, and as required perform necessary record
- Administrative duties for the tax department as necessary including analyzing SAP sales tax exceptions, updating calendars and logs, certified mailings, updating and archiving files, creating electronic files, to ensure deadlines are met.
- Assist with special projects as assigned by Tax Director and Treasurer
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting and a minimum of 5 years of Tax experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience with either Income Tax, Entity Tax, Partnership Tax, and Sales/Use returns and filings
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook,
- Experience with data base software, data warehouse systems, Sage fixed asset system,
- Familiarity with Sage financial reporting, tax depreciation,
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work load,
- Organized, self-motivated and efficient,
- Exhibits ability to learn and apply new skills,
- Detail oriented, enjoys working with numbers and accurate,
- Comfortable dealing with high stress situations
