Summary
The Lead Process Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze processes and use best practices to design, develop, budget, implement and optimize manufacturing processes to reduce costs and improve safety and quality, resulting in enhanced customer service support and increased profitability. This role is vital in driving efficiency, quality, and productivity improvements while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The Lead Process Engineer will support multiple manufacturing facilities, will have interface with outside commercial customers and will have global Calderys reporting responsibilities.
Job Duties
- Apply engineering techniques to analyze, design, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes and products to meet production goals and quality standards in support of HWI’s - HarbisonWalker Business System (HBS), including LEAN 6-sigma efforts; analyze existing processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, minimize inconsistencies, reduce costs, minimize waste and reduce downtime to drive improvements in Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE)
- Lead, facilitate, execute and manage projects (process and capital) from conception to completion to reduce costs and improve the customer experience by implementing engineering best practices with the incorporation of Lean/Six Sigma tools and methodologies; coordinate with stakeholders to conduct periodic reviews to ensure that the projects achieve the desired results
- Partner with the operations team(s) to develop best practices and standard work to solve manufacturing problems, initiate productivity improvements, drive maintenance excellence initiatives, and identify future opportunities for the overall continual improvement of the plant; review plants KPI monitoring systems and determine ways to improve their ability to meet or exceed company initiatives/goals
- Partner with the Calderys Global Organization to provide training sessions, instructions, systems and consultation to production and maintenance operators and engineering personnel to support technical development and ensure consistent understanding and adherence to established procedures for efficient operation to drive continuous improvement
- Coordinate with stakeholders to prepare accurate expenditure proposals and/or cost justification analysis; present findings to appropriate operations, corporate and/or Calderys global management
- Assemble comprehensive reports that present process status updates, performance trends, and changes in a clear and concise manner; include relevant data visualizations, graphs, and charts to facilitate understanding and decision-making
Qualifications
- Requires B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) or a related field
- Requires motivation and ingenuity
- Requires excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including presentation planning and delivery skills; ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
- Requires computer operation skills including, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced excel and PowerPoint expertise and Auto Cad engineering software
- Requires experience using lean and continuous improvement methodology
- Requires strong strategic thinking and business problem solving skills
- Requires strong collaboration, interpersonal, communications and leadership skills and a demonstrated track record of making improvements that benefit the organizational results and customer
- Requires relationship building and change management skills
- Requires knowledge of ISO 9001 and similar achievement standards
- Requires ability to lead change initiatives and drive process excellence
- Requires ability to make a significant change in a variety of environments, with multiple learning experiences
- Requires experience with data analysis, operations management and business intelligence tools
- Requires coaching skills with front line employees and supervisors/managers
- The Lead Process Engineer requires six plus (6 ) years of proven experience optimizing manufacturing (refractory knowledge desired) processes and utilizing engineering concepts.
