Position Overview
The Cell Captain is the production line leader. They are responsible for ensuring safety and quality protocols are being followed, communication of job assignments, training for specific product runs, and placement of employees in assignments as required for the day.
Duties and Responsibilities
Safety
- Verify employees in work area adhere to safety procedures, including PPE.
- Effectively deliver toolbox talks & stretches as required
- Participate in safety walks through your area(s)
- Identify safety hazards and escalating issues as necessary
- Reporting and documenting of safety incidents
- Complete OSHA 10-hour training
- Ensure quality forms are completed by cell employees and perform first article inspection
- Perform necessary quality checks of products per production paperwork
- Ensure proper equipment is calibrated and within due date
- Train employees on required quality documents and submit necessary records
- Communicate customer feedback and/or quality alerts to employees
- Report scrap and rework with proper documentation, escalate if necessary
- Escalate production issues to Senior Lead, Production Supervisor or Manager as needed
- Ensure production paperwork, equipment, tools and work materials are present when needed
- Know and train setups on all cell equipment
- Adherence to cell standard work
- Completion of daily, leader standard work
- Audit Operator PM’s on cell equipment
- Maintain adherence to production schedule
People/Communication
- Report attendance issues
- Coach, develop, and lead team by example
- Train on new hire checklist, as needed
- Ensure associates follow company policies and procedures
- Daily cell team meetings
- Help build an organizational culture in which passion for continuous improvement is inherent
- Update production metrics per shift
- Lead team on 5S housekeeping, daily
- Promote adherence to lean practices including one-piece flow and waste reduction
- Monitor production against performance goals to ensure progress is being made
- Gemba walk participation
- Ensure hour by hour boards are completed on time and correctly
Skills and Experience
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 1-5 years’ experience in Manufacturing.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to participate and Lead in a team-orientated environment.
- 10 Hour OSHA Training Required (company paid)
- Willingness to assist and train others.
- Ability to communicate at all levels of the company.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees or visitors.
- Basic mechanical experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
