What are the responsibilities and job description for the Perfusionist position at Hudson Regional Hospital?
Oversees and monitors operations involving extracorporeal circuitry during cardiac and non-cardiac procedures. Manages and guides Perfusion staff.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Assembles primes, re-circulates and tests the extracorporeal circuitry prior to initiation of extracorporeal therapies. In consultation with the surgeon, modifies extracorporeal circuit and/or incorporates the use of special equipment to accommodate operative procedure to be performed.
2. Monitors and observes the operation of the heart-lung machine and perfusion therapies. Based on the patient’s physiologic parameters makes adjustments as required to maintain adequate perfusion. Obtains blood samples during procedures.
3. Responsible for the administration of medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit.
4. Performs advanced blood therapies including PRP, Platelet Gel, hemofiltration and autotransfusion.
5. Maintains adequate record keeping during the surgical procedure.
6. Disassembles and cleans the perfusion equipment following termination of the procedure.
7. Facilitate the research and implementation of new technology,
8. Development and maintenance of Policy & Procedure, Quality and Infection Control. Evaluation of perfusion therapies
9. Provide clinical education regarding extracorporeal circuitry and therapies.
10. Performs related duties, as required.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science Degree required, Masters preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience
- Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and New Jersey State Licensure required.
- Experience with all extracorporeal procedures and special cardiac procedures and testing.
- Ability to operate heart-lung machine and related equipment.
