What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pet Sitter/Dog Walker position at Hug A Love Pet Sitting?
Hug A Love Pet Sitting is a pet sitting and dog walking business that cares for not only the clients' pets but also their homes. We focus on what the pets need to be happy and healthy while their human is away.
We service Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, and surrounding areas.
We provide pet sitting in the client's home, dog walking services, and pet taxi. There may be occasional overnight stays.
Driving: Must have valid driver’s license and be able to transport pets safely. Must be able to read and follow a road map. Ability to navigate efficiently is expected. Must be able to reach addresses within the assigned region within 30 minutes.
Dog walking: Requires skills sufficient to successfully walk dogs in public places. Must be able to restrain and control dogs up to 120 lbs. on leads. Knowledge of effective dog walking techniques, such as short lead control, must be demonstrated. Must be able to adhere to company’s policy that no off-leash walking is allowed.
Pet First Aid: Must successfully complete Pet First Aid course and keep skills current. Must demonstrate ability to react calmly and appropriately in an emergency.
In-home pet sitting: Must have ability and skills to provide the following services offered by our company to clients in their homes: watering plants, opening/closing blinds and curtains, feeding animals per instructions, administering medications per instructions, entering and leaving home securely, monitoring pets for health issues, interacting with pets, following clients’ instructions and adhering to all company standards as stated in our operating procedures.
Reporting & Documentation: Complete all necessary reporting and documentation per company standards for both internal and client purposes. Must learn and correctly utilize pet sitter software.
Pet management: Must understand basic pet behavior and demonstrate ability to manage pets safely and effectively. Requires ability to identify the signs of aggression, stress, pain and fear.
Technology: Must be able to use a smartphone.
Client Relations: Excellent interpersonal and pet care skills with clients are expected. Maintaining high customer satisfaction ratings is expected and will be measured by client assessments for each assignment. Must communicate clearly and be able to verify that messages are received. Ability to establish trust and rapport is key.
Teamwork: Must work well in team environment as well as independently. Job requires flexibility to accommodate schedule and assignment changes and support team members.
Attendance: Failure to fulfill an assignment without arranging backup could result in injury to or death of a pet and lost clientele. Must be dependable and punctual for assignments. Accepted assignments must be completed per client and company instructions. Holiday and weekend work required.
Education/Experience: High School Diploma required. Pet First Aid Certificate to be obtained during orientation. Some college preferred. Experience caring for pets required. Job experience or education related to animal care is a plus.
Physical Requirements to perform essential job functions: Must be able to reach addresses within the assigned region within 30 minutes. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of controlling/manipulating a dog up to 120 lbs. Must be able to visually inspect pets in your care. Walking, driving and loading animals into vehicles is required. Must be able to detect animal noises, such as distress whining. Most of the work day for this position requires moderate strenuous physical activity, exposure to outdoor elements and concentration. The ability to assess situations accurately and respond quickly is needed. This work environment requires that an employee have no barriers or aversions to touching, smelling or being in close proximity with animals, including sensitivity to pet dander, feathers, urine, vomit, feces or any other animal feature. Proper safety precautions when handling body fluids is required.
