Lead Portfolio Manager Job Description:
• Establish and run a portfolio management team that works closely with all business stakeholders to create a clear view of projects.
- Lead individual projects and change initiatives.
- Maintaining common methodologies and standards, in line with minimum group standards.
- Maintaining repository of projects best practice, in line with minimum group standards.
- Maintaining project management tools.
- Working with the Executive Vice President and Senior Leadership Team to ensure that projects and programs are initiated and set up correctly, with a clear view on requirements, scope, budget, and delivery plans.
- Providing project management coaching and support to the business and providing ongoing guidance and challenge to those responsible for delivering projects.
- Maintaining a complete and up-to-date dashboard of all projects in the company portfolio (capital, organizational).
- Establishing and maintaining accurate management information of project-related activity.
- Preparing all materials required for monthly reviews within company operations, in particular updates on budgets, milestones, resource allocation, and risks.
- Facilitating the portfolio review itself and leading on the portfolio review section of meeting.
- Running the lessons learned process at key interim and project close milestones.
- Working closely with business sponsors, leads and other stakeholders to ensure consistent clarity and direction throughout.
- Effective management of project controls such as scoping, project planning, scheduling, resourcing, budgeting, quality and stakeholder identification and analysis.
- Actively identify and pursue new opportunities to improve processes and systems to enhance value provided in project delivery.
- Determine the impact of upcoming change (local, cross-functional and Group-level) on operational departments and develop and manage readiness plans including informing recommendations on go-no-go decisions.
- Represent company operations on external (Group-level) Projects managing intra- and inter-project risks, issues, and dependencies.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Operations, Business, Engineering or related. MBA helpful.
- At least 15 years of experience as Project Manager/Project Director - with emphasis in project engineering/management and engineering design.
- PMI certification preferred.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of the wood products industry is preferred.
- Proven experience on large projects with a background in industrial manufacturing, and/or wood products (preference on large projects especially over $200-500M ).
- Experience working with a wide range of industrial process equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, distillation columns, filters, agitators, centrifugal pumps, blowers, centrifuges, bulk material handling and dust collection systems is desired.
- The following background/experience are a plus: change and cost control management; field construction and quality control; field checkout commissioning activities; proven problem solvers/execution who have dealt with high-level issues.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and presentation skills.
- Ability to react promptly and efficiently to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to bring projects and tasks to successful completion through political sensitivity.
- Ability to read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
- Ability to manage a team of project managers.
- Ability to persuade, encourage, and motivate subordinates and others project team members.
