Metals Buyer

Buyer - Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals

Objective:

The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing ferrous and non-ferrous metals for the recycling company. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, negotiating prices, and ensuring the quality and timely delivery of materials.

Main Responsibilities:

Sourcing and Procurement:

• Identify and establish relationships with new suppliers of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
• Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to ensure competitive rates.
• Monitor market trends and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.

Supplier Management:

• Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers to ensure consistent supply.
• Evaluate supplier performance and address any issues related to quality or delivery.
• Conduct regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with company standards.

Inventory Management:

• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the operations team to ensure adequate supply.
• Implement inventory control measures to minimize waste and optimize storage.
• Forecast demand and adjust purchasing plans to meet production needs.

Quality Assurance:

• Inspect and verify the quality of incoming materials to ensure they meet company standards.
• Work with the quality control team to address any discrepancies or issues.
• Maintain accurate records of material specifications and quality reports.

Logistics and Coordination:

• Coordinate with logistics providers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Manage transportation and shipping schedules to optimize costs and efficiency.
• Resolve any logistical issues that may arise during the procurement process.

Financial Management:

• Prepare and manage the purchasing budget.
• Track and report on purchasing expenditures and cost savings.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous metals, preferably in the recycling industry.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Proficiency in using procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of market trends and pricing strategies in the metals industry.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

Additional Information:

• This position may require occasional travel to supplier sites and industry events.
• The Buyer will report to the Purchasing Manager and work closely with the operations and quality control teams.
• This position may require occasional travel to industry events and meetings with suppliers and buyers.
• Yard liaison; interaction with yard personnel
• Interface with internal and external stakeholders
• Must be willing to travel 25%
