Your Role and Responsibilities
In this role you will provide project management services to teams of researchers delivering solutions to U.S. federal customers. The project manager will use appropriate business measurements and terms and conditions for the project according to the project charter, project agreement, or contract; develop and implement IBM Research program management processes and tools; and support proposal development for IBM Research government projects. The project manager has overall performance responsibility for managing scope, cost, schedule, and contractual deliverables, which includes applying techniques for planning, tracking, change control, and risk management. Business management and people management skills are required. The project manager is responsible for establishing an effective communication plan with the project team and the customer. They provide regular project status to the customer, internal IBM teams, and IBM Research executive management.

You will be responsible for the following:
- Work collaboratively across organizational boundaries in support of the project deliverables, obligations, staffing, and financial reporting.
- Work collaboratively with Principal Investigator to create structure for tracking and reporting on defined deliverables.
- Compile and analyze financial performance and collaboratively develop action plan to address gaps.
- Develop financial baselines and forecasts to support successful project execution and delivery.
- Multi-task against competing priorities in fast paced environment.
- Independently research processes and issues and develop proposed resolutions.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience with government projects and/or U.S. Federal government as a client.
- Project Management Institute (PMI) certification or demonstrated progress toward PMP certification.
- Strong financial management skills.
- Strong proficiency in Air Table and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
- Strong client engagement skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels, including technical teams, executive leadership, program teams, and various client groups.
- Ability to adapt to and perform in a dynamic environment, with challenging deadlines, evolving requirements and diverse a stakeholder group.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience with government projects and/or U.S. federal government as a client.
- Familiarity with the research environment - 2 years of experience in supporting research teams.
- Experience developing/implementing PM tools and methods.
