Data Scientist

Job Summary  

This Data Scientist specializes in developing models, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse "big data" sources to generate insights and solutions for services and product enhancement related to security, stability, and resiliency (SSR) of the Domain Name System (DNS).

This role will identify insights from data and metadata sources using various statistical and machine learning skillsets, interpreting, and communicating findings to management and as input for SSR security related decision makings.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

•       Interact with teams and work across communities and departments to identify gaps and research questions related to SSR of DNS.
• Collect, curate and analyze data sources related to SSR of DNS.
• Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
• Uses modeling, statistics, trend analysis, and other data analysis techniques to collect, explore, identify, and analyze data.
• Develops software programs, algorithms, custom data models and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources.
• Use predictive modeling to enhance security of DNS Abuse and decision-making processes related to SSR of DNS and policies around it.
• Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
• Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; Have analytical thinking and translate research outcomes into blogs, white and/or academic papers.
• Interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers.
•       Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• MSc or PhD with excellent academic results in the field of Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Security, Engineering, or similar.
• At least 3 years of work experience in the Data Science space (methods, technology, data) including statistical modelling and machine learning experience to address research questions and/or develop (innovative) data driven products.
• Programming Languages: Python is required, others are advantage.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related industry.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive work experience in machine learning and experience using with AI cluster. Prior international experience preferred.
• Prior experience working for an international organization is strongly preferred.

Languages:

• Fluency, both written and spoken, in English is required.
•      ICANN is a global organization that values diversity; preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated skills in additional languages besides English.  

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

• International travel may be required to support ICANN related meetings as requested for lengths of 7-10 days for each trip, approximately three times per year, likely on different continents.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
• Ability to travel without restrictions globally, frequently with limited notice is required.
• Comfort level with an international work environment that requires availability at times outside normal business hours.
• Work is performed in a normal office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee regularly is required to sit. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear; use hands and arms to reach, handle or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.  
• The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
