Job Summary: The primary purpose of your job position is to assure that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet the needs of the residents and to take charge of areas of activities as assigned by the Activity Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following, other duties may be assigned.
1. The employee will contribute with the Agency’s efforts related to prevention and integrated service delivery with other community providers. The employee will be actively involved and knowledgeable of the Agency’s Continuous Quality Improvement Activities.
2. Employee is expected to support and contribute to inter-system collaboration with other service providers to improve social service delivery systems.
3. Assists in direction the activities planned in accordance with established procedures.
4. Assists the Activity Director as required.
5. Develops and maintains a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
6. Collects, assembles, and completes all paper work as needed.
7. Follows up with established activities for those residents who are unable to leave their rooms. (Bedside activities).
8. Abstracts information as needed from residents’ assessment.
9. Performs miscellaneous duties pertaining to activities.
10. Assists new admissions in the process of orientation as necessary.
11. Files active and inactive records in accordance with established policies.
12. Assumes the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of performing the assigned duties of the Activity Aide.
13. Other related duties and responsibilities that may become necessary or appropriate to meet the administrative needs of this facility.
14. Maintains all Resident Bulletin boards with updated information.
15. Posts daily menu on all floors as required by regulation.
16. Assumes the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of performing the assigned duties of the Activity Aide.
17. Other related duties and responsibilities that may become necessary or appropriate to meet the administrative needs of this facility.
18. Assists with evacuation of residents
Staff Development:
1. Attends and participates in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as scheduled.
2. Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc., as approved.
Safety and Sanitation:
1. Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to your supervisor immediately.
Equipment and Supply Functions:
1. Reports equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible.
2. Ensures supplies have been replenished in work areas as necessary.
3. Assures that work/assignment areas are clean and records, files, etc., are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of work day, etc.
Resident Rights:
1. Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.
2. Assures that residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints are followed.
3. Knocks before entering resident’s room.
Job Qualifications & Requirements

Education/Experience: Must possess as a minimum, high school education. Possess creative ability either in group activities or in crafts. On the job training.
Experience working with the elderly.
Specific Requirements: Bilingual English/Spanish. Possesses the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors and the general public. Be a minimum of 18 years of age and of good moral character. Ability to work harmoniously with other personnel. Ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc. Possesses the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices. Be able to follow written and oral instructions. Must be patient, cheerful, friendly, warm personality with a sense of humor.
Language Skills: Bilingual/Bicultural in English and Spanish. Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Correspondence and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or the organization.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Working Conditions: Works in activity areas as well as throughout the facility. Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Works beyond normal working hours, weekends and holidays and on other shifts/positions as necessary. Is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, odors, etc., throughout the workday. Communicates with nursing personnel, and other department personnel, visitors, etc. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc. Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies and personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
