Summary: Responsible for managing the quality assurance/quality control (QA) program for the cement plant to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting policies, goals and objectives of the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage plant QA program.
- Monitor and direct QA/QC personnel in day to day operations of laboratory.
- Oversee the maintenance and calibration of laboratory/field equipment (XRF, Gamma cross-belt analyzers, PSD, XRD, TGA, etc.)
- Prepare reports, analyze data and make recommendations for improving operation or solving process related problems.
- Monitor and predict product inventories and schedule production of materials based on inventory.
- Initiate and carry out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
- Maintain adequate records of key QA variables on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the QA laboratory.
- Evaluate staff per plant evaluation system with focus on professional and team development.
- Maintain lab/product certifications and accreditations with various agencies.
- Ensures city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to the QA laboratory is met at all times.
- Direct, maintain, and enforce the safety, health, and environmental programs for the QA/QC laboratory.
- Coordinate and communicate QA/QC activities with other departments.
- Interface with vendors and sales staff periodically.
Education and Pertinent Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a related scientific or technical field.
- Three years of experience in a QC/QA laboratory in a cement plant or equivalent experience in related testing laboratory.
- XRF analysis experience required. Analytical method development background in XRF preferred.
- Some management/leadership experience.
- Basic knowledge of the cement manufacturing process.
- Proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., word processing, email, and spreadsheets. Expertise in lab data management systems with database applications and programming a plus.
- Cement process engineering and knowledge is a plus.
