What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Designer II position at Ideum?
The Position
We are looking for an Industrial Designer II who can work with our hardware Workshop team in creating a new generation of touch tables and other interactive products. The work will consist of drafting, prototyping with 3D printers, laser cutters, and/or CNC and other devices and/or materials, and revising and packaging drawings for internal and external fabricators. Our hardware is sold in more than 40 countries around the world. We are looking to revise and create new interactive touch screens and IoT products. This in-person position is at Ideum's studios in scenic Corrales, New Mexico (near Albuquerque and an hour from Santa Fe).
The candidate would work closely with our CEO, hardware Workshop Manager, product manager, and other staff. The Industrial Designer will report to the Workshop Manager at Ideum. This is a full-time, onsite position in Corrales, New Mexico. Our company survived the pandemic and our employees are 100% vaccinated (you will need to be too). We are looking for someone with demonstrated industrial design skills. The ideal candidate has a passion for design and materials and is looking for new opportunities for growth.
Qualifications
Drafting ability and experience with Solid Works, Fusion360, and/or Rhino
A minimum of 5 years of Industrial design experience
Excellent at translating an idea into a design
Experience creating prototypes
Can see a project through from conception to completion
At a minimum, basic knowledge of shop tools
Computer skills, experience with Windows
Detail-oriented
A willingness to learn new techniques and how to operate new equipment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to contribute to documentation and other written materials
Highly motivated and self-directed
Ability to work in a team environment
Strong organizational skills
Excellent problem-solving skills
Extra Credit:
3D printing experience
CNC, laser cutter, and/or mill experience
Experience with electronics and/or AV gear
IT Experience
Experience with electrical systems
Experience with technical documentation
Experience in the museum or non-profit world

Benefits and Incentives
Compensation between $60,000 to $75,000 depending on experience
