IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. seeks a Sr. Data Scientist to apply principles of mathematical, algorithmic, and statistical modeling to develop, analyze, and interpret business data relating to veterinary diagnostics and veterinary diagnostic instruments. The Sr. Data Scientist applies principles of mathematical, algorithmic, and statistical modeling to develop, analyze, and interpret business data relating to veterinary diagnostics and veterinary diagnostic instruments.

What you can expect in this role

  • Specific core duties and responsibilities include extraction and transformation of data from existing data stores to create data assets; programming, development, implementation, use and testing of data base user interface and query software supporting data analytics projects; formulating and reformulating mathematical, algorithmic, or simulation models of problems, relating constants and variables, restrictions, alternatives, conflicting objectives, and their numerical parameters; validation and testing of models to ensure adequacy; applying statistical, simulation and data mining methods to perform data analytics functions, including predictive modeling, anomaly detection, data profiling and segmentation, recommendations, text analytics, and big data analytics; using statistics and predictive modeling to collect and explore data; collaborating with stakeholders to identify, understand and analyze problems, identify available data, and determine statistical measurements of interest and business performance criteria; presenting the results of mathematical/algorithmic/statistical modeling and data analysis to management or other end users; preparing reports and visual representations of data defining and evaluating problems and recommending solutions; generating systematic deliverables for scalable deployment on embedded devices or as cloud services; and defining data requirements and gathering and validating information, applying judgment and statistical tests.

  • The Sr. Data Scientist develops algorithms for new instrument platforms, which requires applying domain knowledge in engineering and the physical sciences to develop solutions, and also models underlying physical phenomena from instrument sensors, including laser signals, microscopy signals, or other necessary waveforms and integrate their solutions into embedded hardware systems.

What you will need to succeed

  • Masters in Data Analytics, Data Science, Data Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field; 1 year of related data science experience; and the following proficiencies and skills gained in professional experience or related academic programs: working with Programming Requirements: Python, R, C , SQL, and Basic web user interface development (HTML/JavaScript); System Familiarity Requirements: Linux, Github, CI/CD, Bare Metal Cluster usage, Cloud services (AWS/GCP), JupyterLab, and DVC (Data Version Control); Database Experience in Elasticsearch, Postgres, Snowflake, Spark, and Splunk; and Analytics, including Data transformation techniques, Univariate and multivariate analysis, Unstructured and structured data analysis, Signal/sensor analysis and filtering techniques, Algorithm development, Data visualization techniques, Machine learning methods, and Design of experiments.
