The LPD (Livestock, Poultry and Dairy), New Product Development team is looking for an Associate Scientist or Scientist to join the team. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved at the bench level with a small team of scientists in the development of a new lateral flow and ELISA products.  The ideal candidate will possess technical curiosity, attention to detail, adaptability, communication skills, organizational skills and the ability to work well both in a team and independently.  

What you can expect:

  • Prepares materials, performs experiments, gathers data, carries out analysis and reaches conclusions. May also design experiments.
  • Documents experiments and other lab or production activities. Prepares reports and summaries. Presents results and conclusions. Maintains appropriate records.
  • Collaborates and communicates with colleagues and others in related areas to provide work support, exchange information and ensure efficient processes.
  • May produce and/or test reagents and final products and perform other production-related activities.
  • Maintains knowledge of products and procedures, developments in the field and industry and regulatory environment. Adheres to appropriate procedures and regulatory requirements.

What you need to succeed:

  • Solid foundation in biology and chemistry - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Chemistry, biology or related degree preferred. ​
  • Experience with Lateral Flow is preferred
  • Laboratory bench and instrumentation skills.
  • Analytical, trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong logical reasoning skills.
  • Aptitude for learning new techniques
  • Ability to run multiple workflows in parallel
  • Ability to work independently or with limited direct supervision
  • Fast learner with creative problem-solving ability
  • Ability to present and communicate data at team meetings

Work Environment:

This position will be based out of our Westbrook location.  Due to the current pandemic, as it relates to COVID-19, our employees' safety and well-being are top of mind for us.  For those essential employees that must continue to work on-site, we have strengthened the preventative health measures already in place with new, more stringent actions.  This includes but is not limited to making space for social distancing, use of mask/PPE, sanitize workstations, daily wellness checks, limited traffic flow by zones, and consistent real-time communication.

Laboratory setting with varying levels of noise and exposure to various potential chemical and biological hazards.  Compliance with approved laboratory practices is required.
