POSITION SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

The Senior Actuarial Analyst will provide pricing support to the Primary Casualty business unit by working closely with the underwriters. Assist business unit to meet or exceed the yearly plan by monitoring the performance of the book of business and ensuring sustained profitability and growth. Develop novel analysis and tools to support the pricing needs of the underwriters. Collaborate with the actuarial members (pricing, modeling and reserving) and the Business Intelligence team to provide valuable insights to Underwriters and Senior Leadership

 

LOCATION

IFG Companies is hiring in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.  Applicants must reside in one of these states to be hired.  Remote and flexible work arrangements are provided to all employees based on manager approval.

 

SALARY RANGE 

The expected salary range is $100,000 to $150,000 and subject to change at any time at the discretion of the Company. 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide pricing support to the Primary Casualty business unit including but not limited to the following items:
    • Calculate rate indication and perform yearly rate review
    • Maintain risk classification structure
    • Build future and maintain current pricing tools (rating engine and individual risk raters)
    • Support reinsurance renewal by querying, reviewing and analyzing the submission data
    • Assist with the annual budgeting process
    • Provide data and analysis needed for rate filings and data calls
    • Perform various analysis using traditional tools like Excel, VBA and SQL, yet also leverage more modern ones like Power BI and Python
    • Develop and maintain scorecards and dashboards
  • Use data analysis workflow and SQL to build and maintain complex datasets for pricing, analytics and predictive modeling
  • Present results from complex analysis to Senior Leadership and provide strategic and operational recommendations
  • Work closely with other pricing actuaries to support monthly, quarterly and annual reporting needs
  • Create and maintain documentation that adhere to the high standards of conduct, practice, and qualifications of the actuarial profession by following the precepts of the Casualty Actuarial Society code of professional conduct
  • Other duties as required
  • Occasional travel may be required

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate planning and organizational skills
  • Outstanding problem solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Products
  • High proficiency with relational databases – extract data using SQL for actuarial analysis and assist IT in building and enhancing databases
  • First-rate attention to detail

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Data Science, Statistics or related field of study
  • At least 3 years of experience in Insurance, (Property & Casualty industry preferred)
  • Preferred: Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) or near ACAS (4-6 exams)

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands are considered to be that of an office environment, climate controlled, with minimal physical exertion. This position requires prolonged sitting, ability to utilize a computer and interactions with others meetings or via phone.
