The Technical Director is primarily responsible for all technical aspects of the Performing Arts Center and the Lecture Recital Hall. The Director schedules spaces and staff for all events including Guest Artist Series, Arts and Communication Department performances, outside clients, and other ICC departments, and is generally responsible for oversight and execution of lights, sound, set-ups, scenic elements, and rigging for nearly 200 events each year. The Director supervises a part-time staff of technicians and student workers.

- Operate, maintain and safeguard the technical assets of the Main Auditorium, Black Box theatre and the Lecture Recital Hall, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
- Determine the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
- Design, set up, maintain and operate lighting and sound systems for events, productions, and projects; assist guest designers and artists with technical matters.
- Advise production managers and designers on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervise the implementations of approved technical designs.
- Supervise and assist with scenic planning (technical drawings-CAD), construction (scene shop oversight) and management (coordinating staff).
- Assist in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer, student workers and/or paid technical staff for Main Stage, Black Box Theatre, and Lecture Recital hall shows.
- Orient facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitate use of the technical facilities by the resident company and others engaged by or renting the facility.
- Monitor the condition of facilities spaces and equipment to include but not limited to the scene shop, greenroom, Mainstage, Black Box Theatre, LRH, lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; responsible for preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Assist with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintain inventory and orders specialized supplies.
- Attend technical rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting the show.
- Make recommendations to the Board of Directors or theatre leadership regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.
- Required to be present at all Guest Artist Shows.

- Bachelor’s degree in theatre or related field.
- 2 years of direct experience working as a stagehand, lighting technician, sound technician, or stage management or related experience.
- Experience working with CAD software.
