Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Accountant Supervisor at Lincoln Correctional Center in Lincoln, Illinois. The person selected for this position directs and monitors the day-to-day functional operation of the Department’s accounting system, accounting records, and provides fiscal accounting of all State and locally held funds. This position provides a great opportunity for someone who has an affinity for numbers and a keen eye for ensuring accuracy and eliminating discrepancies. The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational, analytical, and strong supervisory and communication skills. We invite all qualified applicants to apply.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as a working supervisor.
- Directs and monitors the day-to-day functional operation of the Department's accounting system, accounting records, and provides fiscal accounting of all State and locally held funds.
- Works closely with the Business Administrator (Public Service Administrator).
- Monitors timely opening and closing of accounts, balances trial balances, and determines net worth, monthly financial statements of appropriations and commissaries.
- Serves as a member of the facility internal audit team, reviewing accounting procedures to ensure compliance with the Administrative Directives and Departmental Rules.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college, with courses in Business Administration and Accounting.
- Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience serving as a supervisor over professional staff.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience in auditing and budgetary planning.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience applying accounting principles to the processing of invoices, vouchers, and general ledgers.
- Prefers at least two (2) years professional experience preparing comprehensive accounting reports.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience posting information proficiently into an accounting system.
- Prefers the ability to meet deadlines with strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Prefers at least three (3) years experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and/or similar types of computer programs.
Conditions of Employment
