Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Reimbursement Officer 1 for the Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center located in Springfield, Illinois to perform professional duties in implementing the Individual Reimbursement for Care Program. Establishes parent, family or guardianship liability for individual care and funding for individual care from public and private sources.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Interviews parents, responsible relatives, guardians, and attorneys of admitted individuals to ascertain financial circumstances and ability to pay for individual care.
  2. Monitors scheduled reimbursement payments from responsible individuals and agencies.
  3. Maintains reimbursement files and coordinates aspects of reimbursement services with other facility offices and community care programs. 
  4. Processes applications for public and private sources of funding for individual care, such as for Social Security Benefits, Public Aid insurance coverage and pension funds.
  5. Completes and files tax relief forms for eligible individuals.
  6. Reviews medical invoices for accuracy and appropriate insurance billing before submitting to accounts payable, including Court of Claims invoices.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in accounting, economics, or business administration, preferably including courses in insurance, estate, and probate law.
  2. Requires one year of work experience in the reimbursement field.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
