The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is seeking a full-time Human Resources Coordinator based out of either our San Francisco and Washington, DC office. This is a non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Human Resources & Administration. It is a hands-on, fast-paced role that will support and contribute to the growth and impact of the HR department while contributing to the ongoing evolution of ILRC culture, particularly our ongoing DEIAB work. The ILRC currently has a hybrid work model, with one to three in-office days per week, depending on job responsibilities.


The ILRC is a national nonprofit legal support center headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Austin, TX; Houston, TX; San Antonio, TX; the San Joaquin Valley of California; and Washington, DC. Our mission is to work with, educate, and enhance the capacity of immigrants, community organizations, and the legal sector in order to build a democratic society that values diversity, dignity, and the rights of all people. Founded in 1979, the ILRC is regarded as one of the foremost experts on engaging immigrants and developing their leadership, providing expertise on complex issues of immigration law, procedure, and policy, and engaging in advocacy and educational initiatives on policies that affect immigrants. We are a team-based organization that makes decisions in a collaborative fashion that allows for significant staff input.


The ILRC is currently adding to our human resources department.  The individual who fills this role will play an integral part in increasing HR’s capacity to serve the organization, draft policies, and work on DEIAB initiatives, as well as handling other responsibilities as assigned. We are looking for a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment and can also work independently. The ideal candidate will work with the Director to establish priorities and HR strategy in ways that elevate and advance the ILRC’s mission and organizational goals.



Job Responsibilities:


  • Draft policies, procedures to enhance employee morale, retention, attraction, and company culture.
  • Manage the organization’s recruiting process, ensuring requirements are clear and well-communicated, an appropriate pool of candidates is generated, and the organization conveys the best possible image and message to all candidates.
  • Works with the Director to design, plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster an understanding of the organization's mission and culture.
  • Responsible for the smooth execution of all employee transactions from initial enrollment in benefits and payroll through the full life cycle of employee activity.
  • Support the Director in the administration of performance review programs to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity across the organization.
  • Prepare and process essential employee documents, such as offer letters, benefits communication, and separation paperwork.
  • Maintain employee files, job descriptions, and other employee documentation, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of all records and information.
  • Proactively ensure up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, local, and case law changes and labor law activity affecting human resources and the organization so that the organization’s policies, procedures, and practices comply with new and existing regulations.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors, including but not limited to health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
  • Collaborates with other departments for special activities and employee recognition events.
  • Works on special projects as assigned.
  • Identifies and proposes areas for contribution.



Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three to five years of experience in human resources.
  • Comfortable in all aspects of HR, including but not limited to: employee relations, recruiting, administration, benefits, compensation, compliance, and staff development.
  • Possess knowledge equivalent to a 4-year degree from a college or university;
  • Able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • A strong multi-tasker with an ability to prioritize and manage time effectively – focusing naturally on the right things and can move naturally between projects and tasks without losing sight of critical elements and priorities.
  • Naturally curious with a self-starter personality –always looking for ways to innovate and improve without waiting to be told what to do.
  • Builds and leverages strong working relationships
  • Familiarity with nonprofit environments is preferred.
  • Experience with BambooHR or other HR Information Systems is a plus.



Compensation/Benefits:

Pay is commensurate with experience, with an expected range between $65,000 - $75,000 annually. The ILRC offers excellent benefits, health/dental/vision insurance, a flexible spending account for medical and dependent care, family forming benefits, vacation, and sick leave. The ILRC also sponsors a retirement plan option upon fulfillment of eligibility.
