Organizational Location: This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of Public Affairs, in Washington, District of Columbia.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Qualifications:

Please limit your resume to 5 pages. If more than 5 pages are submitted, only the first 5 pages will be reviewed to determine your eligibility/qualifications.

Writing Samples are required to be submitted at the time of your application.
  • WRITING SAMPLES- Submit three (3) writing samples of news/journalistic articles that are greater than 300 words and no more than 500 words in length. One sample must be a press release.
You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
  • Assist in creating and reviewing written material for quality and compliance;
  • Assist in developing editorial policies, guidelines, and procedures; and
  • Assist in reviewing and conducting data driven analysis of written material for editorial quality.
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
  • Writing and editing communications that may be complex and controversial;
  • Composing, writing, and editing articles;
  • Composing, writing, and editing reports; and
  • Composing, writing, and editing written material about organization's mission and activities.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the Federal Government will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. Therefore, the requirement that applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pursuant to E.O. 14043 does not currently apply as of the date of this job opportunity announcement. ICE will request information regarding the vaccination status of selected applicants for the purposes of implementing other workplace safety protocols, such as protocols related to masking, physical distancing, testing, travel, and quarantine.

As a Writer Editor, GS-13 you will perform the following duties:
  • Write and edit materials tailored to specified media and audiences;
  • Provide journalistic and managerial judgment in decisions affecting production of each assignment;
  • Provide editorial and production support as required;
  • Develop and implement agency's editorial policies, practices, guidelines, and standards; and
  • Assesse agency performance relative to correspondence performance metrics for executive level documents and conduct data driven analysis of written material for editorial quality.
