What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, R&D Lab position at Imperative Care?
SUMMARY:
The R&D Lab Manager will support the Company’s product development teams by owning all aspects of the on-site instrument, testing, and simulated-use lab spaces with direct responsibility for all equipment, tools, accessories, and activities conducted within them. This individual will participate in design control activities, maintain equipment compliance, calibrations, and preventative maintenance, and work proactively and collaboratively to ensure lab spaces and personnel are contributing to the development of innovative medical products. This role will directly supervise the R&D technician team and be responsible for managing their assignments and career development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned on an individual basis:
- Support innovation and drive technology development by maintaining the R&D lab space, as well as identifying and procuring new equipment and tools.
- Develop, plan, and schedule equipment and tool allocation for development and design verification activities as well as calibration, maintenance and service.
- Manage resource availability and schedules/assignments on a daily and weekly basis, communicating to R&D management and constraints, conflicts, or other concerns.
- Drive best practices in tool design and utilization.
- With a flexible mindset, grow the capabilities of the on-site lab spaces through people development, equipment acquisitions, and space layout/optimization.
- Assist with equipment/tool troubleshooting and manage day to day activities.
- Interface with R&D engineering, quality, procurement, and vendors.
- Must be capable of working independently and in a team while being flexible, self-motivated and curious.
- Plan and lead team regular meetings to facilitate communication and decision making.
- Manage recruitment, hiring, training and performance management of people toward productively achieving department goals.
- Provide regular feedback to management regarding project status, as well as other critical issues which affect the attainment of project completion dates.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- BS degree in technically relevant field and 8 years of experience. Combined education/experience shall also be considered.
- Experience with medical device development, including experience in an entrepreneurial start-up environment.
- 3 years of previous people management experience preferred.
- Ability to work constructively with people at all levels of company, including senior management.
- Collaborate effectively with others to accomplish project goals.
- Multiple experiences in product development and execution through significant portions of the product development cycle
- Developed products under design control per ISO 13485 quality or comparable quality system.
- Prior experience in growing, nurturing, and leading an experienced engineering or technical team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; technical writing capabilities are a must.
- A proven decision maker, hands-on and action-oriented style must be evident.
- Proven ability to manage a team of highly skilled technicians and prioritize multiple projects independently.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the R&D technician staff
Salary Range: $160,000 - 172,000/annually
