Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of the Development- Bay Area will increase and mobilize resources to support the young men of color in IYT programs. They will create and execute an annual development strategy and plan to seek and grow support from individual donors, corporate and foundations partners, government, and other donors/funders, while also identifying new growth opportunities. The Director of Development will coordinate with the central office Development Assistant to update the Salesforce donor database information, including prospect management, coordinating acknowledgment letters, and other regional stewardship activities.


Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the CEO, provide leadership to create a development plan to raise a minimum of $500,000 in year one. This includes revenue from corporations, foundations, individuals, and the government.  
  • Develop a pipeline of new corporate and foundation prospects and other institutional donors, including government sources, to support IYT programs
  • Conduct cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundation and corporate donors, including securing, preparing for, and proactively following up on foundation and corporate cultivation meetings, proposals, and reports
  • Develop and execute strategies to nurture, cultivate, and grow the base of individual donors, including increasing touchpoints beyond the fall fundraiser and end-of-year appeal
  • Personally manage a portfolio of individual and institutional supporters while practicing moves management. 
  • Provide the Director of Communications and Marketing input to build the IYT brand and support fundraising efforts through social media, website, and partnerships.
  • Spearhead the formation of an IYT advisory council in the Bay Area, aimed at fostering and maintaining strong relationships with partners, schools, and affiliates in the Bay Area and North Coast (Humboldt County). 
  • Work closely with the central office Development Assistant to organize and upload information about past, current, and prospective donors on Salesforce.
  • Represent IYT at major events in the Bay Area and in the Humboldt County - North Coast region. 


Qualifications

Must Haves

  • A passion for IYT’s mission and demonstrated commitment to addressing issues facing young men of color.
  • Record of accomplishment in planning and executing development activities that secure support from individual donors, corporations, and foundations
  • Ability to see the big picture and think strategically while also being able to execute tactical tasks
  • Highly organized, capable of balancing and prioritizing concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • A strong communicator with excellent writing abilities, with emphasis on clear and compelling appeals, proposals, and email requests
  • A team player who enjoys supporting and collaborating with colleagues
  • Knowledge of and experience working using Salesforce as a donor database or another CRM
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally throughout Northern California for up to 20 to 25% of the time


Education 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • CFRE accreditation or desire to achieve accreditation, a plus


Experience 

  • Three to five-plus years' experience in a frontline development role managing a personal portfolio of prospects/donors and conducting solicitations
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Adaptability and flexibility in the face of changing conditions; tolerance for adversity and uncertainty


Computer Skills 

  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Microsoft Suite application


Schedule

This is a Full time Exempt position from M-F 8:30am to 5:00pm with occasional weekend and evening work events.


Salary/Benefits

Salary range is $90,000 - $120,000. Benefits include vision, health, dental, 401K, and two weeks of paid vacation. 


Work Location

Temporarily remote with frequent travel in and around the Bay Area, North Coast and throughout Northern California for up to 20% to 25% of the time. Position requires once a week travel to IYT's Headquarters based in Sacramento, Ca. for in-person meetings.
