Job Description
The position includes duties as classroom teacher, active contributor to the science curriculum and to the overall growth of students and the school. Will perform all other day-to-day duties as a full-time faculty member at Incarnate Word Academy.
Schedule
7:30 – 3:45 Monday to Friday, August – May

Essential duties and responsibilities
- Teach a maximum of five (5) sections of Chemistry / AP Chemistry in an all-girls Catholic environment.
- Actively access professional development materials and evolve/improve curriculum.
- Excitedly take on responsibilities above and beyond typical classroom duties.
- Assume normal duties required of all faculty members as outlined in the employment contract.
- Live the Incarnate Word Academy leadership identity and principles as a role model to students.
- Support and implement the philosophy of Catholic education.
- Serve as a content expert and seek out opportunities to expand his or her knowledge.
- Thrive on a collaborative team which promotes daily brainstorming and creative thinking.
- Exhibit a growth mindset and continually improves the way he or she operates.
- Master diverse teaching styles and thoughtfully selects the appropriate teaching style for the material and students.
- Often work as a co-learner in the classroom, allowing for student-led questioning and discussion and student-developed assignments.
- Assign homework intentionally, sometimes asking students to recall or apply information but often asking them to analyze, evaluate or create.
- Provide the principal with weekly lesson plans that align curriculum, instruction and assessment, and integrate technology into the curriculum.
- Use instructional time efficiently and effectively.
- Evaluate student progress effectively, keeping records and reports required by the school.
- Constantly challenge course lesson plans to align with best practices and updated knowledge.
- Build appropriate and professional mentorship relationships with students.
- Value student and teacher wellness.
- Follow directives of the principal and regulations as set forth in the school employee handbook.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or above in Chemistry.
- Completion of 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid state teaching certificate.
- Passionate about teaching science skills to young women.
- Demonstrated embracing of classroom technology and experience using it as a tool for learning (Microsoft products, iPad apps, Google apps and classroom functionality such as SmartBoards).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree
- Prior teaching experience at middle school, high school, or college level.
