Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursingeducational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. - Develop, Evaluate, & Implement National Policy: Evaluate current data and trends in Indian health to identify the needs of the School-Based Health program; assess need for new standards, policy and guidelines based on the environment internal and external to Indian Health System, Tribal, and Urban (I/T/U) programs. Coordinate preparation of routine and special reports concerning consultation, assessment, evaluation, planning and outcomes achieved for the School-based health care programs. Foster the provision of population-centered care in an environment that focuses on safety for the patient, community, and school-based healthcare staff; supports a culture of enhancing safe practice.
- Assess, Identify, & Monitor Program Resources & Trends: Assess trends and developments in school-health care service delivery and predict future impact on Indian Health by advocating for the collection and analysis of data from variety of sources. Analyze and distribute results of outcomes and make recommendations for planning and implementation of National School-Based Health Nursing objectives and improving the health
- Develop Networks & Partnerships: Develop and maintain liaisons with national groups and governmental agencies in the public, private and voluntary sector. Foster a model of school-based nursing that uses an interdisciplinary team approach to meet school-based health programs such as physicians, social workers, environmental health specialists, health educators and representatives from the community and BIE leadership, among others.
