DEGREE: In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the education requirements for a podiatrist position. Incumbent must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from a school podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained.
LICENSURE: Must have passed the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APMLE) AND have a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-14: One (1) year of professional podiatry experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the practice of podiatry in an office, clinic, or hospital. This experience is related to the work of the position in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Perform surgical repair of bone fractures, soft tissue injuries, congenital and structural deformities, and infections involving the foot, ankle and leg. Review past medical history, request or perform diagnostic test and examinations as necessary to obtain information relevant to each case. Diagnose, directs, prescribes or provides treatment, arranges for specialized care or hospitalization. Educates patients on illness and treatment and any follow-up.

Duties
- Provides expert podiatric surgical and medical care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, wound care, minor and major podiatric surgical procedures, and follow up services.
- Serves as consultant to other healthcare professionals in all matters pertaining to podiatric patient care. Admits patients to the hospital, consults with medical staff after admission and discharges for patient care referrals.
- Interviews, examines patients, reviews past medical history and request and/performs diagnostic test and examinations as necessary.
- Maintains clinical medical record documentation and administrative records as required.
- Counsels and educates patients, families, communities, staff and others regarding health care with emphasis on diabetes and prevention of vascular and podiatric complications.
