What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Indiana University Transportation?
Safely operate a vehicle on an assigned route, transporting passengers to and from designated locations on campus and surrounding areas. Maintain excellent customer service relations with passengers, motorists, and pedestrians. Maintain, read, and understand route schedules. Operate two-way radio communication equipment correctly and according to company policy. Inspect vehicles before each trip using correct procedures and according to company policy. Complete driving skills evaluations. Follow all safety policies and procedures.
REQUIRED
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
- Possess, or ability to obtain, at least a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement (will provide paid training if the applicant does not have an appropriate CDL).
- Complete the bus operator training program before operating a bus in regular service.
- Ability to pass and maintain US Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.
- At least 21 years of age.
SKILLS
- Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check. Ability to read a map. Knowledge of the service area.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment alcohol and drug test and subject to continuing alcohol and drug testing as mandated by the Federal Transit Administration.
- Ability to obtain a thorough knowledge of transit operations, including DOT rules and regulations.
- Ability to work day or night shifts through weekdays.
WORKING CONDITIONS/DEMANDS
This position spends most time working in an enclosed environment. Exposure to occasional adverse environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and inclement weather may occur.
