What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Supervisor - Construction position at Industrial Power Systems?
The Safety Supervisor will support the Safety Director in coordinating and implementing occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure construction safety operations in the organization. Job duties include administering jobsite safety programs, supervising the safety team, and maintaining safety records and documentation. To be successful in this role, individuals will need to be organized, have strict attention to detail, and complete work on time independently. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also required as this person will be responding to email and phone queries from employees, subcontractors, clients, and vendors. The Supervisor will proactively solve problems and possess safety operations experience in the construction industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with the Safety Director and management to develop, prepare and implement safety policies and procedures.
- Supervise the safety team ensuring they meet safety expectations and responsibilities. This includes:
- Training employees and safety team members on company’s safety standards
- Conducting regular walk thorough inspections of construction areas.
- Compiling information and preparing all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, local regulations associated with accidents.
- Issuing various permits (i.e., Hot Work, Confined Space, etc…)
- Conducting Job Hazard Analysis for specific tasks and focusing on field hazard recognition/correction.
- Manage the IPS Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Assists in recruitment and selection of new safety employees while coaching and mentoring current safety team.
- Supports Safety Director by uploading and completing required documents (paper and digital) to third party sites for safety and compliance requirements.
- Investigate incidents, injuries, and property damage, including compiling data, taking photographs, and completing proper documentation.
- Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations. Ensuring follow-through has been made to address failed audits and concerns.
- Supports Safety Director by reviewing safety training and recommending updates and revisions.
- Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems and stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
- Identify efficiencies in safety practices and processes in addition to assisting in the adoption and implementation of new safety technology and software.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules, this includes completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- OSHA 30 Construction Certification (Required)
- CPR – First Aid Certification - (Nice to have)
- Minimum 1 year of safety construction experience and/or petroleum experience.
- Can be a combination of training, education, and relevant work experience that is equivalent.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required or hold current OSHA 502 certification, current COSS or COSM certification.
- Five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required.
- Hold current first aid/CPR/AED certification or higher.
- Demonstrate strong supervisory and leadership skills to the safety team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Forms, etc.) and other standard computer software. Experience with CRM software preferred.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
- Detail oriented with good problem-solving and teamwork skills
- Possess written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to protect sensitive and confidential data.
- Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times and can travel throughout facilities and work sites as required to conduct safety inspections.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
