What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editor, Waste position at Industry Dive?
Waste Dive is looking for ambitious, curious and creative journalists who are excited to join one of Industry Dive’s original publications. Be part of a collaborative team covering the fast-changing waste and recycling industry.
As an editor for Waste Dive, you will join an industry-leading team of journalists focused on the U.S. waste and recycling industry. You will work closely with that team to identify, report, write and edit stories that lead our coverage of environmental regulations, mergers and acquisitions,
corporate ESG initiatives, organics recycling, local government waste systems, labor issues and more. You will help elevate all types of stories, whether it's a breaking news brief or an in-depth analysis of trends, as well as assist in planning and executing big projects.
You will help manage Waste Dive’s daily newsletter process and also have the opportunity to report, write, cultivate sources, and pitch stories on your beat. The role includes some travel and event coverage.
This position reports to the lead editor.
\n- A track record of editing, fact checking, writing and reporting
- Proven time management skills, particularly on deadline, and the ability to balance short-term and long-term reporting and editing projects
- Ability to deftly edit stories in a variety of formats, including but not limited to breaking news, short-form briefs and long-form trend stories
- Ability to be a team player who takes joy in working with others to workshop subject lines, headlines, sentence structure and strategy
- An aptitude for analyzing trends, data and issues for business leaders
- 3 or more years of experience in journalism or a related field
- Had a year or more experience covering the waste and recycling industry or related beats involving environmental regulations and industrial sectors
- Excel at project management and collaborative projects
- Are interested in working on innovative storytelling formats or data visualization projects
- Have familiarity with publishing daily or weekly email newsletters
- Know how to build relationships with important sources and report on complex subjects
- Can prove a solid understanding of the economic forces at play in designated beats
- Have experience reading SEC filings and ESG reports and can spot information useful for executives
- Have experience covering legislative, regulatory and local contract issues
- Have experience covering mergers and acquisitions
- Have worked with freelancers, sending assignments, editing their work and providing feedback
The salary range for this role is $55,250 to $80,000 depending on experience.
