POSITION PURPOSE
The Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of represented maintenance employees and the maintenance of the corporation’s equipment and rolling stock.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Determines, gathers, and provides the materials/parts, tools, and labor necessary for electric bus/vehicle and equipment repairs.
- Responsible for planning, scheduling, and follow-up by completing work order audits on revenue and non-revenue electric vehicle maintenance while meeting all service requirements; coordinates work, prioritizing and distribution.
- Coordinates and executes maintenance and project schedules for the department.
- Assists with scheduling projects based on forecasting, material availability and staffing.
- Utilizes department maintenance tracking system software to assign trouble tickets.
- Reviews maintenance trouble tickets progress for electric vehicles, history, and outstanding issues.
- Prepares weekly reports on all electric vehicle programs and special projects.
- Conducts weekly assessments and recommends special projects.
- Supervises all electric vehicle and equipment repairs; manages an efficient workflow and verifies units have been properly fixed.
- Ensures that preventative and predictive maintenance, repair work of electric rolling stock.
- Enforces departmental policies, including policies related to work schedules and assigning personnel to effectively carry out required work.
- Completes relevant paperwork and reports; this includes ensuring that all maintenance actions (bus defects and repairs, etc.) are properly documented on paper and/or in the appropriate computer system(s).
- Act as Electrical & Special Projects Manager when appropriate.
- Serves as system super-user for all computerized maintenance management software.
- Serves as resident expert for all electric vehicles.
- Manage labor relations, ensuring labor is assigned in accordance with the current contract.
- This position is accountable for safety in the workplace.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Recommend new methods aimed at improving maintenance procedures and controlling the use of materials, parts, and supplies; work with other departments, including but not limited to storeroom fixed route and flexible and contracted services, to improve processes and services and to reduce costs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervise one or more employees.
- Apply supervisory responsibilities according to organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Assist with interviews, hiring decisions, and training employees; plans, schedules, assigns, and directs work; sets goals for the staff; evaluates and manages employee performance; addresses complaints and resolves employee issues.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- Formal trade school or an associate degree in an automotive or engineering program or a related field is preferred.
- Three to five years of vehicle maintenance experience and customer service experience is required, preferably in a union environment.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in the light or heavy vehicle sector utilizing skills, knowledge and techniques required to service, maintain, and repair vehicles such as “hybrid” or battery fully electric vehicles fitted with high voltage batteries and components (including various types of Lithium-Ion batteries) preferred.
- A valid Indiana Operators Driver’s License is required; a valid Indiana Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Advanced knowledge of high voltage vehicle maintenance, this includes how to install/maintain/repair relevant equipment; and knowledge related to preventative maintenance, related safety guidelines/parameters, mechanics, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and the vehicle structure/body.
- Operational knowledge of mandated safety principles related to personal protective equipment, chemical hazards, lockout/tag out, and general shop safety and cleanliness practices.
- Knowledge of labor relations and contract negotiations.
- Proficiency in using a computer and related technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, the Internet, and complex spreadsheets and databases.
- Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones.
- Good presentation skills and the ability to communicate to groups.
- Ability to interact with others, both in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence.
- Above average decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Basic mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively.
