How the Role fits In:
This position directly oversees and maintains process control systems within the plant and is the expert in DCS and PLC systems design and support. They provide guidance on instrumentation and control devices to maintain the plant in safe operating order. They work on industrial process control systems in support of capital projects, best practices, plant production initiatives and reliability improvement efforts. The individual will work closely, plant process engineers, area managers, site supervisors, maintenance and operating staff.
Responsibilities And Accountabilities
SHE Stewardship
Maintain safety as the highest priority and abide by all INEOS safety policies and procedures.
Understand and promote the INEOS “20 Principles of Safety”, assuring that personnel are aware of safe working practices and promote the safety concepts of “Coaching for Safety” and “Stop Work”.
Promote safety and safe actions through communication such as discussing safety with employees/contractors before job task, during meetings, and as opportunities arise to promote safety to the fullest extent possible.
Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulatory requirements and strive to meet internal SHE objectives.
Ensure completion of own and direct subordinate training requirements as outlined in the annual training schedule.
Work Duties
Acts as sites technical expertise in DCS and PLC control systems.
Identifies, executes and supports control system improvement projects including SIS systems.
Responsible for long term planning to maintain a reliable plant control system at all times.
Works with I&E technicians in instrumentation and control system troubleshooting.
Contribute to reduction of plant operating and maintenance costs.
Maintain promote Process Safety Management and participate in site HAZOP studies.
Manage control system scheduling, backup, storage, and retrieval functions, as well as creating, maintaining, and testing disaster recovery plans on an organizational level.
Oversees the negotiation and contracting with consultants, technical personnel, and vendors for services and products.
Education/Experience
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
A Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four-year college or university in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience in process automation system or engineering. Prior experience with Honeywell Experion and PLC ladder logic.
Skills/Competencies
Strong technical knowledge of chemical process units and control systems.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of field instrumentation, including valves and transmitters.
Be able to develop and execute controls capital projects and system upgrades.
Knowledge and experience with SIS system implementation.
Knowledge of cyber security requirements needed to protect controls systems.
Effective communicator across all levels of the organization.
The use of the following software could be required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook), Skype, Visio, Adobe (PDF), Share Point, SAP, Microsoft Project
The use of the following site systems will be required: Honeywell Experion Distributive Control System, PlantState Suite, Siemens PLCs, Uniformance Historian, COA Database, Training Mine, Esker
Physical Requirements
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
