SUMMARY: 
In this critical role, the Benefits & Payroll Specialist will manage the entire payroll process across the Company, including offices in Kansas, Michigan, Massachusetts, California, and Toronto Ontario.  Additionally, as part of the Human Resources team this role will assist with key projects to help grow and support the HR organization.  Our ideal candidate is proactive, organized, highly detail oriented, a team player, and thrives in a fast-paced and collaborative work environment.

We are looking to fill this position in our Lenexa, KS office OR or in our Rochester Hills, MI office. This opportunity has a unique environment which will encompass working remotely from home for a fraction of the time. We anticipate that you may need to travel to the office on an occasional basis.

Payroll Function Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the entire payroll process in UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group), including but not limited to:
    • Bi-weekly and special run payroll processing
    • Reimbursement of eligible expenses
    • Commission payments
    • Exception calculations for employee insurances
    • Accuracy of new employee information as well as termination information for payroll processing
    • Assist in state payroll tax registrations
    • Accuracy of hourly employee hours uploaded to UKG
    • Review W-2’s for accuracy as prepared and provided by UKG
    • Review and set up of garnishments, levies and bankruptcy orders
    • Handles employee payroll questions and issues relating to the above
  • Oversees maintenance of all payroll files
  • Responsible for preparation of documents needed for audits
  • Responsible for providing SUI tax rates to payroll vendor for the various states we have employees in
  • Generate regular and adhoc reports to support business needs
  • Respond to verification of employment requests
  • Prepare and complete employment verifications
  • Responsible for special payroll projects as assigned

Human Resource Function Responsibilities include:

  • Processing monthly benefit invoices
  • Assist in regular audits within benefit administration sites for accuracy
  • Provide census data to vendors when applicable
  • Assist employees with inquiries and coverage issues as a liaison with vendors and providers
  • Support annual enrollment process including HRIS programming
  • Support new hire, life event, and termination process
  • Responsible for special human resources projects as assigned
  • Review and process unemployment claims
  • Maintains employee files and all HR-related records in accordance with recordkeeping and retention requirements
  • Responsible for any HR special projects as assigned

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of payroll and benefits administrative experience with track record of continuous improvement and learning
  • Experience with Ultimate Kronos Group Software is a plus, but not required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or related field
  • FPC or CPP Certification preferred, but not required
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion
  • Strong communication and time management abilities, with exceptional detail orientation and follow through
  • Enjoys problem solving
  • Strong Interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
