Staff Accountant
REPORTS TO |
The Staff Accountant will directly report to the Senior Tax Accountant with dotted line reporting to Firm Tax Partner
JOB OVERVIEW |
The Staff Accountant will perform tax preparation and other tax related services, accounting, bookkeeping, compilations, reviews and other tasks as assigned by supervisor or management. Must respond appropriately to Firm clients, vendors, and internal requests from staff. Must exhibit a “Can Do” attitude in performance of job responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES |
Firm Performance Expectations:
- Complete tasks assigned by management in a timely manner
- Develop efficient work habits; work must be accurate, organized, and prompt
- Practice effective communication when completing all tasks
- Recognize how assigned tasks affect the final work
- Follow regulations and professional ethics of the AICPA and the OSCPA
- Keep current on all professional pronouncements
- Maintain client and firm confidentiality and all proprietary information
- Represent the firm in a professional manner
- Follow the firm’s procedures and comply with the policies outlined in the Employee Handbook manual and Quality Control Procedures document
- Identify problem areas in the client engagement that need to be discussed and immediately bring to the attention of Firm Partner
- Ability to work overtime when the Firms needs dictate
Job Knowledge:
- Accounting and tax:
- Knowledge of accounting and tax principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
- QuickBooks experience and the ability to train clients on and offsite
- Mathematics:
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics and their applications.
- English Language:
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar, etc.
Professional Development:
- Staff Accountants are expected to develop professional on an ongoing basis
- Participating in continuing professional education – through courses, webinars and seminars
- Must be willing to accept additional responsibility within the scope of Tax and Accounting Service Offerings
- Must learn new technology introduced by the Firm
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum education required:
- 4 year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Knowledge of basic accounting and tax principles.
- Computer experience with windows-based programs.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) along with the ability to pay strong attention to detail.
Working conditions
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The work environment changes with the client. A large percentage of time will be spent indoors in an office atmosphere. On occasion, client work may require time spent in other conditions.
- Frequent same-day travel using a personal vehicle for work at clients’ offices, meetings, or seminars.
- Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight stay for work at client’s, meetings, or seminars.
- Occasional overtime is required throughout the year.
