Job Description

The Media & Entertainment pillar of Informa Tech brings together exciting brands across the event, research and media landscape, covering the technology and companies touching our lives as consumers every day. Our game media brand, Game Developer, is seeking an Editorial Director (Publisher) to build on its success and capitalize on a rapidly growing and changing industry.

Game Developer was first founded in 1997 as Gamasutra and has strived since its inception to be a leading resource and reference for game development and industry knowledge. Following the shift from Gamasutra to Game Developer in August 2021, the site has maintained that mission while embracing the in-depth content its namesake Game Developer magazine is known for.

To accomplish this, Game Developer publishes multiple stories daily to inform, empower, and inspire its game developer readership. This includes news posts on current events and developments in the game industry alongside regular, in-depth features and interviews exploring many different aspects of game development and the diverse individuals that make up the industry.

The site also hosts a robust community of game makers through its blogging platform. This section offers developers an additional avenue to share their own experiences, thoughts, and advice with Game Developer's readership and the wider game development community.

Responsibilities

The Editorial Director (Publisher) is expected to assume the following key responsibilities, plus any other reasonable duties as required:

• Develop future brand strategy for Game Developer, based on trends for modern media sites and needs of the industry
• Oversee and implement Game Developer's editorial strategy to serve an audience of game development professionals
• Manage staff of editors and writers, working closely with editor-in-chief to achieve measurable goals.
• This is not a daily hands-on editing role but one that requires a demonstrated understanding and passion for reporting, storytelling, and the role editorial sites play within the larger Informa Tech ecosystem
• Lead a cross-functional team that will collaborate with other departments including, sales, marketing, design, product, events, etc.

·         Help create and drive strategy to grow Game Developer’s audience and reach

• Track web metrics and adjust content strategy accordingly to best serve the audience
• Develop new and existing content-based products, services, events, etc. that support revenue opportunities for partners in sales

·         Represent the interests of journalism and our audiences in broader interactions with appropriate business functions across the company

·         Finance functions include collaborating with EICs to formulate annual budget, monitoring expenses to ensure compliance with budget, preparing monthly forecasts, and other business tasks as needed

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Willingness to collaborate
• Commitment to supporting and amplifying diverse voices in the industry
• Direct experience managing a news/industry publication
• Commercially minded
• Experience with Google Analytics
• Familiarity with CMS
• Familiarity with productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe)
