Job Description
We are seeking an Engineering Operations Manager to join our fast-growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing and improving engineering operations by identifying, designing and implementing process improvements, supporting data-driven decision-making, budget analysis and forecasting, employee onboarding and training programs, and facilitating communication between engineering and other business units. This is a highly visible cross-team, and cross-product, role focused on alignment and consistency across the Engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the main liaison between engineering and other business units, such as product, HR, IT and Finance, to ensure alignment and optimize engineering operations.
- Support CTO in engineering budget analysis, re-balancing, capex forecasting and other special projects.
- Perform resource management tracking of personnel across teams to feed financial forecasting and operational decisions.
- Support Head of Agile Practices in allocation of resources to initiatives and various Pods based on budget and departmental and product goals.
- Assist with the facilitation of rotating contractors on development teams, tracking their onboarding, renewal, budget approvals, and training.
- Help develop programs for engineers around ongoing training and centers of excellence.
- Assist the agile practices team with making Atlassian suite updates and changes to improve overall department organization.
- Build and maintain process documentation, training materials, and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy across teams.
- Identify opportunities for automation and technology solutions to improve efficiency and reduce manual workloads.
- Oversee capital and operational expense categorization of ongoing engineering work.
Qualifications
You are self-motivated and have high standards for your own work. You stay on schedule and can handle juggling several different priorities, driving each forward independently. You are fluent in budget mathematics and have a good grasp of future high-level goals and can keep them in mind when determining what to do next. You have contagiously positive energy and are driven. You are comfortable presenting to or preparing documents to a senior audience. You value aesthetics and ensure ease of interpretation in how you prepare documents and present information. It is exceptionally important to you that things be done correctly. You value efficiency and are a proactive fixer.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in management, finance, mathematics, information systems management or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in operations, finance or process improvement.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, HR, IT and Finance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn data into insights and actionable recommendations.
- Experience with project management and change management
- Experience with engineering cost management like calculating cost of delay, and forecasting team cost
- Experience with resource management and overseeing categorization of capex/opex expenses.
- Experience with Atlassian products like confluence and jira
- Experience as an Atlassian admin is a major plus
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting or communicating to C-level audiences
- Ability to work in a multi-tasked, fast-paced, and changing environment
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; attention to detail
- A keen eye for presentation
