Intermediate Technical Writer

Position Summary

Works internally and with customer organizations to develop, write, and edit technical documentation using a variety of formats, including video. Ensures that the documentation is written clearly and suited to the needs of the customer's users, whose technical product knowledge ranges from limited to highly proficient.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Quickly learns and adopts technology, tools, and processes in a fast-paced environment
  Researches new trends in information and service delivery

• Participates in and supports initiatives to improve content quality and usability and to improve team processes; contributes to strategy discussions when needed

• Adapts writing style to project requirements; applies principles of minimalism

• Researches and analyzes the customer's documentation requirements; writes technical documentation

• Performs risk analysis, identifies potential issues, and creates work estimates for doc projects

• Grasps complex technologies with a strong analytical and technical aptitude

• Applies proven leadership skills to team building and mentoring more junior writers

• Implements information architecture methodologies and techniques

• Demonstrates strong skills in using DITA XML–based authoring tools

• Demonstrates solid skills in using video content tools such as Camtasia, Captivate, etc

• Demonstrates solid storyboarding and content planning skills

• Demonstrates solid understanding of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies

• Possesses solid understanding of telecommunications, cloud, and networking domains

• Finds creative and practical solutions to complex problems related to the creation and maintenance of documentation sets

• Works with limited supervision to pursue established goals and resolve issues as they arise

   

Qualifications

• Industry certification, college diploma, or university degree in one of the following streams: engineering/computer application/technical writing/e-learning/technology (BE/ME, B Tech/M Tech, BCA/MCA
  5–7 years of experience as technical writer

• Telecommunications background

• Knowledgeable in delivering marketing collateral

• Graphic and video creation and editing experience

• Storyboarding, Camtasia and Captivate experience

• Search-engine optimization (SEO) experience an asset

• Familiarity with chatbot platforms an asset

• Experience in creating animated GIFs an asset
