$55,300 - $70,008 Annually

Full Salary Range :

USD $55,300.00 / Yr. - USD $111,500.00 / Yr.

  • Hybrid Eligible,
  • School Certifying Official (SCO) certification preferred; Willing to train, position contingent upon passing SCO test within the first 30 days.
  • This is a (1) one year contract position with possibility of renewal.

Department Summary

The Veteran Resource Center (VRC) is aligned under the Division of Campus Life in UCLA Student Affairs, and supports the military-connected community at UCLA (veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, and dependents of United States Armed Forces service members).

The unit provides academic support, career development, guidance on educational benefits, and community building opportunities;

increases campus awareness of military-connected student issues; and fosters a sense of belonging, community and well-being.

Veteran Services plays a key role in supporting UCLA's long-term partnership with the United State Department of Veteran Affairs West Los Angeles Medical Center and National Cemetery by collaborating with students on community services projects and programs.

In addition, Veteran Services directs the admission strategy for military connected students to UCLA undergraduate, graduate, and professional school admissions departments;

leads campus case management to 1000 UCLA military-connected students; and has responsibility for reporting, compliance and audits to federal agencies.

Position Summary

Demonstrated current knowledge of University, local, state, and governmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to VA, DoD TA, and Cal Vet programs, including administration of VA benefits for various programs e.

g. Chapter 30, Chapter 31, Chapter 33, Chapter 1606, Chapter 1607, Cal Vet, Tuition Assistance etc.. Demonstrated current knowledge of past and ongoing University practices relating to registration / enrollment.

Salary & Compensation

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

In depth understanding of VA and DoD TA provisions and University practices relating to registration and enrollment, grades, auditing of courses, and enrollment changes to determine if student is making continual progress in their program.

  • Ability to analyze and identify problems, assess alternatives and render logical decisions. (Required)
  • Ability to work independently and serve as a resource to staff and campus administrators for the specialized information relating to VA education benefits, Department of Defense tuition assistance programs, and Cal Vet Programs. (Required)
  • Ability to utilize and display good written and verbal communication, public relations, and professional attitude and demeanor when engaging with students, clients, employees, and staff of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds and mediating between hostile and / or contending parties or groups. (Required)
  • Communication skills sufficient to write or to speak on a one-to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to explain veterans and military educational benefits, grading, registration and enrollment procedures;

skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity sufficient to assist student in resolutions of concerns and problems. (Preferred)

Ability to perform a wide range of tasks with frequent interruptions and / or distractions and under conditions of fluctuating workload while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and meeting multiple competing deadlines.

Strong attention to detail and ability to understand complex student systems and databases and how they interrelate; analytical ability to abstract relevant information from such systems. (Required)

  • Knowledge of University and office policies and procedures concerning confidentiality of student records; knowledge of FERPA and other legislation pertaining to the release and confidentiality of student records. (Preferred)
  • Ability to make in-person or remote group presentations to provide information on local, state, and federal VA and DoD TA education benefits and procedures and policies of the university. (Required)
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with campus departments, UC campuses, and external agencies. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. (Required)

  • Background Check : Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check : A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Age Requirement : Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • CANRA : The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA . The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".

Schedule

8 : 00 A.M. to 5 : 00 P.M. PST / variable based upon operational needs.
