Position Summary
The Student Parent Success Coach will work with student parents at SFCC and area high schools to support academic and family success in post-secondary education.
Working from a multi-generation framework, they will work with students and other departments at SFCC to provide advisement, resource navigation, and training to young parents.
The Student Parent Success Coach will support training, home visitation resource navigation, activities, and events for student parents.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides advisement, coaching, and resource navigation to support academic and parenting success for parents and their children
- Works with SFCC recruitment and student affairs to support the enrollment of parents at SFCC
- Supports training, services and activities for student parents, including some evening classes and events
- Develops strong community partnerships for recruitment, resource navigation, and support of young families
- Works with First Born and More to develop and deliver home visiting and / or coaching to parents in higher education
- Provides training and workshops to student parents on various topics related to academic success, advocacy, and parenting.
- Works at the Family Resource Hub at SFCC to serve student parents on campus
- Coordinates external and internal stakeholders to ensure program success
- Works with the Program Manager to support a student parent advisory group at SFCC
- Works across departments to build a family-friendly campus culture and services
- Supports student parents with transition from graduation to employment and / or transfer to a university program.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES :
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and data.
- Knowledge of community resources and organizations that work with young families in New Mexico
- Experience with academic coaching and navigation
- Experience working with young families in community programs
- Experience with teaching or training parenting or home visitation
- Business level knowledge of Microsoft and job-related software programs.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in building collaborative partnerships
- Ability to communicate with diverse students, employers, and community members
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals representing different skills, attitudes, and disciplines among the college community.
- Ability to represent ECCOE at public meetings, conferences, and board meetings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree
Three (3) years of experience working in higher education or community organizations
Masters degree
1) years of experience working in higher education or community organizations
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual (English / Spanish)
Experience working with young families
Physical Demands
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping.
The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
The work is typically performed in an office, with some travel to family homes as necessary.
Work Hours
- Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
- Weekend and evening work may be required occasionally.
