What are the responsibilities and job description for the Discharge Lounge Technician position at Inspira Health Network?
Position Summary
The Discharge Lounge Technician takes direction from the registered nurse. The main functions are to maintain a safe, clean environment in the discharge lounge, assists licensed personnel with basic patient needs and monitoring health and vital signs. This position will utilize Capacity Management to facilitate throughput and accurate patient location data to assist with the discharge process and transport patients as necessary.
Position Responsibilities
- Greet and direct patients/visitors.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information.
- Elevate issues and concerns to appropriate professional staff. Refer any grievance from the patient or primary caregiver to the Patient Relations team to manage.
- Proactively provide Service Recovery when service failure occurs, collaborating with the registered nurse and the Nurse Manager.
- Assist in patient flow and any other duties as assigned.
- Ambulates and transfers patients with assistance as necessary.
- Interact with the care team (Physician, APN, Resident, Nurse, Social Worker, Palliative Care, Case Manager).
- Follows INSPIRA HEALTH policies and procedures for control of infections.
- Uses effective, assertive communication skills.
- Assists with orientation and on-the-job training of new employees.
- Transports patients from department to department.
- Ambulates and transfers patients with assistance as necessary.
- Transports portable oxygen tanks and monitors the levels of oxygen each shift.
- Lift or assist others to lift patients to move them off beds/chairs to wheelchair.
- Clean equipment such as wheelchairs or portable equipment. Documenting if equipment needs repairs or maintenance.
- Assist the registered nurse in medical emergencies.
- Transports medication to and from clinical areas following proper procedure.
- Assist with discharging patients including but not limited to assisting patient to their vehicle.
- Utilize Capacity Management and PowerChart for accurate patient tracking.
- Documents data as required.
• Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments• Ability to work independently and know when to ask questions
- Previous experience as unit clerk/nurse’saide, or transporter preferred

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Basic Life Support Certification required.
