Position Summary: This pet passionate individual will represent and ‘own’ Instinct® in the neighborhood pet specialty retailer market and work to continually increase distribution and sales of all Instinct® products. They will meet or exceed territory retail sales objectives and brand initiatives.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Manage assigned Sales Territory (SC, NC, VA, WV, MD, PA, Washington DC) to achieve sales growth and brand objectives
- Create compelling business proposals to persuade retailer partners that Instinct delivers profitable sales
- Call on existing retail stores to identify opportunities for SKU expansion and product placement
- Research and develop pipeline to open new retail accounts for the Instinct ® brand
- Develop best-in-class relationships with retail owners, buyers and store personnel
- Train retail associates on Instinct products and brand story
- Set up Instinct ® merchandised displays and appropriate POS materials in store
- Manage day-to-day operations of sales territory, including distributor representative relationships
- Manage associated retailer, consumer and distributor events and trade shows
- Additional responsibilities
- Develop and update annual and quarterly sales plans
- Manage, track and report out sales trade budget
- Maintain activity reporting system (CRM)
- Create regional social media/digital presence in Instinct® partner retailers
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
- Minimum 2-3 years sales experience
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
- Exercise problem solving skills and customer service skills
- Exhibit natural curiosity, “people person” and ability to talk to all types of people
- Strong attention to detail
- Numeric and analytic skills, ability to identify opportunities connecting all data points
- Ability to manage budgets
- Aptitude for learning about basic animal nutrition
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred Experience
- Pet industry knowledge and/or experience
- Key account management preferred
- Bachelor’s degree
- Digital/social media savvy
Travel Requirements:
- Reliable transportation
- Overnight travel ~35% and flexible hours based on the needs of the business that may include evening or weekends
