General DescriptionThe Inspector (Residential) is responsible for assessing residential dwellings for compliance International Codes and Standards. This position requires travel, including International Travel. Position is a 100% field-based position to conduct field-based assessments both domestic and internationally.  

 

Supervision Received/Exercised

The Inspector receives direction from Supervisor and the Project Manager. The Inspector may, from time-to-time, be asked to take a lead role in providing other services critical to the performance of IBTS contractual obligations such as special inspections, research, or similar technical services relevant to the field inspector’s education, background, and experience. Compensated training is provided for approved candidates.

Qualifications

Responsibilities and Duties (Duties include but are not limited to):   

  • Inspects dwellings for compliance International Codes and Standards entering results in program using a tablet or another portable electronic device.
  • Offers suggestions to assist in corrective and preventive actions and helps devise possible solutions for ensuring compliance.
  • Provides peer review of completed reports.
  • Provides guidance to team members on all procedures, technical issues, travel planning, and communications.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education Requirements  

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Technical trade training in construction.

Licensing Documents and Certifications

  • Valid current US Passport
  • Valid driver’s license
  • ICC Certified Residential (B1) / Combination Inspector (R5 preferred) or combination of 4 years field work experience in residential construction as foreman with related training.

 Work Experience

  • Four or more years construction experience and/or as a residential inspector

 Special Skills and Abilities

  • Good writing skills with the ability to compile data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for conducting inspections in a constructive manner.
  • Skilled in the use of programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Time management skills for executing the inspecting.
  • Dispute resolution skills to resolve differences or conflicts amicably and professionally.
  • Travel planning skills to include travel by air/car, hotels, communication, and invoicing preparation.
  • Codes, standards, workmanship, and construction methods for housing construction—all trades as applicable for housing.
  • Represents the organization in a professional, ethical, and consistent manner.
  • Leadership skills to be recognized as a value-added service provider and ability to build good business relationships.
  • Ability to work as a team player and to work with all levels of staff within an organization.
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and to successfully complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain stationary in a stationary position while in the performance of your duties
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside and outside of work sites during inspections.
  • Constantly positions self or ascends/descends ladders for inspection including but not limited to climbing steps, moving through crawl spaces, attics, basements, etc. These actions include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling etc.
  • Frequently moves Inspection equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to and from inspections.
  • Constantly works in all outdoor weather conditions
