What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Designer position at Integrated Protection Services?
Primary Responsibilities
Oversee the coordination and implementation of IPS issued designs, drawings, and project specifications. Supervise other IPS designers or contracted designers and draftsman to assure proper workflow and project and task completion. Oversee IPS designers training and certification needs. Coach IPS designer to help them achieve their goals. Provide sales support for technical issues on proposals and projects and review proposals for accurate scope, technical solution(s), equipment, and labor. Maintain knowledge in current, new, and upcoming technology, equipment, products, and solutions.
Essential Functions
- Manage, train and coach employees within the Design department.
- Make hiring, termination, and personnel decisions for employees within department as necessary.
- Track progress of design/drawing projects in the design queue
- Allocate workload to other designers and draftsman.
- Perform engineering/design work on projects as workflow and necessity dictates.
- Assess delivery times for completed projects and advise if delivery times exceed company standards.
- Assess manpower needs for completing design/drawing projects and advise if contacted or additional personnel are necessary.
- Review current and new products and lines to assure company is staying current with technology
Required Qualifications
- Minimum associate degree in engineering or related field. Bachelors Degree preferred
- Minimum of five years of professional experience.
- Must have NICET II certification in fire alarm, with goal to achieve level 3 within 18 months and level 4 within 36 months.
- Must have high level of experience using AutoCAD computer assisted design software.
- Knowledge using BLUEBEAM software preferred.
- Must have knowledge of BIM (building information management) requirements.
- Must have knowledge of IP networks, functionality, and implementation.
- Experience in commercial, industrial, and institutional fire alarm, special hazards suppression, intrusion, access control, and closed-circuit television systems, equipment, and applications.
- High Knowledge in state and local building codes.
- Possess excellent math, language, and reading skills. Must fluently speak, read, and legibly write in English. Must have aptitude to pick up technical information.
- Must be self-motivated; able to perform with little supervision.
- Excellent computer skills-must be able to navigate company software and third-party inspection software, enter data and send communication. Requires excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Possess good interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a professional approach.
Physical Requirements & Environment
- This is a largely sedentary role; however, occasional travel to jobsites to assist with walk-throughs will be required.
- This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- All employees of IPS are subject to random drug testing per our Drug Free Safety Policy
- Background check required. Must have and maintain a clean driving record (no DUIs or other serious violations within the past three years).

- Start his/her day trying to determine how he/she can exceed customer satisfaction at each opportunity.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
