Director of Purchasing

Position Summary

The Director of Purchasing will control the flow of incoming raw materials and other
commodities into our organization. In this role reporting to the Senior Vice President of
Global Operations, the Purchasing Manager will oversee purchasing and replenishment of
components, international sourcing, import/export and all other aspects of the Purchasing
department. The Purchasing Manager is a critical member of our organization and will
oversee all aspects of department management including hiring, training, employee
development, and adherence to safety protocols.

Role & Responsibilities
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

• Work cross-functionally with Sales, Finance and Operations to develop demand
• forecast
• Lead Purchasing team in managing the Supply Chain, ensuring proper inventory levels are maintained through the use of the Materials Resource Planning tool; release of Purchase Orders to meet demand, optimizing vendor capabilities, adjusting based on actual customer orders
• Report on purchasing activities at the daily cross functional operations meeting
• Consistently review commodity pricing, currency conversions rates, other economic
• and/or political situations domestically and abroad that would influence the overall
• supply chain.
• Identify new and/or alternate international sources of supply to support business objectives.
• Review current status of existing purchase orders and process purchase orders.
• Manage Purchasing Team.
• Negotiate prices and contracts terms with suppliers utilizing a “should cost” model when applicable
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors
• Select prospective vendors and negotiate contracts.
• Use Supplier Scorecard to evaluate existing vendors based on quality, timeliness, price, and payment terms
• Schedule deliveries and ensure timely fulfillment of orders in conjunction with Logistics Department.
• In conjunction with the Quality Department, ensure quality of procured items and address problems with vendors when they arise
• Work closely with Research and Development Department on new projects from a purchasing and support perspective
• Travel to vendor locations as needed
• Participate and report to Executive Management on monthly/quarterly Key Performance Indicator goals and results.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in business, supply chain or other related relevant fields
• 8-10 years of progressive Supply Chain experience
• 5 years proven leadership ability and experience leading small to mid sized teams
• Experience sourcing international suppliers
• APICS Certification and/or Lean/Six Sigma Experience preferred
• ERP/MRP system knowledge required; NetSuite experience a plus
• Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and managerial skills
• Able to work effectively in a team environment
• Excellent negotiation skills
• 5 years of proven leadership ability and experience leading large teams
• Strong decision making, problem solving and strategic thinking
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Ability to manage, coach, and provide training for direct reports
• Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
• Strong technical leadership, organization, teamwork and communication skills
• Firm grasp of purchasing, demand planning, logistics, inventory, distribution, business, and management principles

Salary : $76,000 - $96,300
