SUMMARY:

This internship is designed for Tribal Team Members interested in gaining practical experience in the operations of Community Relations, specifically, Community Relations Coordinator.

The Intern will have the opportunity to gain up to 2000 hours (1 year) of on-the-job training, education and experience necessary to understand and perform the duties of the position by successfully completing all tasks and assignments listed in the Intern Work Plan Outline. Additionally, Interns will participate in LEAP trainings to gain leadership skills, computer training, and may acquire trade-specific certifications(s), or attend off-site trainings, in order to enhance their skills and broaden their service knowledge.

The Community Relations Coordinator Intern will acquire the skills necessary to be responsible for coordinating, implementing and evaluating all casino community relations and developing more team member awareness and involvement in community affairs. The Intern will work directly with day groups and casino line runs, provide information and assistance, as well as encourage, build and sustain positive relationships in the community and surrounding cities.

Upon successful conclusion of the Community Relations Coordinator program, Interns will receive a certificate of completion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

During the course of the Community Relations Intern program, and under supervision, Interns will learn to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the management team, training staff, and the TMCDPA to complete all portions of the internship outline/work plan.
  • Interact effectively with the public and Team Members and perform excellent customer service at all times.
  • Coordinate and conduct site tours which could include but are not limited to media, investors, and other respected groups.
  • Provide support to the Community Relations Manager including but not limited to written and verbal communications to internal and external contacts and completing pertinent documents.
  • Support and abide by casino wide policies and procedures while assisting long term community partnership goals on and off property.
  • Support and execute representation at community affairs with casino outreach including exhibits, trade shows, and sponsored events.
  • Coordinate and support all aspects of casino community relations and casino outreach business. Assist in the implementation, scheduling, and participation of all community relations department related efforts.
  • Review and support end-of-month financials to determine if expenditures are reported correctly, match financial with manual records, identify expenditures listed on financials, and provide reports to management.
  • Maintain effective communication with established clientele and build relationships.
  • Assist in maintaining records for financial reports, expenditures, invoices, purchases, receipts, and monthly variances; help prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly forecasts.
  • Draft, confirm and verify all in-kind monetary donations.
  • Assist with coordinating and executing all community relations related events.
  • Assist with the coordination, verification, and proper recording of event details including, but not limited to, promotion notices, document submission and advertising requests; prepare and enter guests’ information to track spreadsheets for accuracy.
  • Work within revenue/profit budgeting guidelines established by management.
  • Assist with monthly financial statements for accuracy and works with an emphasis on cost effective events.
  • Help to prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly Community Relations’ calendar.
  • Attend, coordinate and assist with all casino outreach and events as requested.

  • Ensure a high degree of thoroughness and accuracy of departmental records and reports.
  • Maintain a consistent, regular attendance record.
  • Perform any reasonable request made by management.
  • Usher as needed by management for events.

  • Flexibility to work a fluctuating schedule including DAY and SWING shifts with little notice

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED required, some college preferred. One year related experience in sales, marketing, banquets & catering, and/or training preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. One to two years of office experience preferred.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be an enrolled PRCI Tribal Member. Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record. There is minimal supervision of this position, so the ability to effectively perform on one’s own is required. Must possess excellent communications skills, and be computer-literate. Must be able to effectively resolve problems, based on common-sense use of reasoning ability, as well as knowledge of established company policies. Available to travel to community outreach in surrounding cities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or Team Members of company.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and %’s such as cost of goods. Reads and understands financial reports within the Marketing department.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk or hear. The Team Member is also regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The Team Member is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Applicant must also be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
