Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching reading, English, social studies, science, math and computer skills to individuals who are functioning below the 12th grade level to prepare for the official GED ® Exam; Creating and developing curriculum, lesson plans and teaching materials; Integrating computer-aided instruction into lessons as appropriate; Monitoring and assessing students’ progress on a regular basis. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree A minimum of 12 months teaching experience preferred; Flexibility in work hours; Computer proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office and the internet; Ability to communicate and work effectively with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds; Ability to pay close attention to detail as well as the possession of good judgment and a strong work ethic; Strong communication skills; All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment; Participating in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings; Participating in professional development as appropriate to the position; Teaching reading, English, social studies, science, math and computer skills; Creating and developing curriculum, lesson plans and teaching materials; Monitoring and assessing students’ progress on a regular basis; Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
