What are the responsibilities and job description for the Watershed Planner position at ISG Inc.?
Description
This position works with Water Resources, Environmental, and Planning programs to implement watershed planning and coordinate grant writing programs on local, regional, and statewide basis. The position provides planning and policy expertise to local government staff and officials, planning boards, and others involved in watershed planning and implementation.
The ability to support effective engagement with the public will be critical. The position also provides technical expertise, facilitation, writing, and research assistance necessary for the resolution of complex and unique water management challenges, conflicts and disputes. These issues include: planning; population growth; water supply and demand; water use; climate change; land use planning; public infrastructure planning and development; collaborative planning on large-scale water planning projects; and public engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Supporting and leading planning activities related to comprehensive watershed planning processes, including scheduling meetings, coordinating stakeholder input, and verifying program requirements are achieved.
- Developing effective planning documents that support implementation of watershed restoration and protection practices.
- Supporting public engagement efforts, as well as increased coordination with various other local, state, and federal agencies, water users and stakeholders.
- Coordinating with other staff members to develop all plan content including maps, figures, presentations, and/or other infographics to support the planning process.
- Developing educational materials for the public that convey information quickly and easily.
- Defining critical water-related themes, including understanding of potential uncertainties, and the development of plausible scenarios given various management actions for a wide range of water stakeholders.
- Coordinating grant pursuits as well as leading the development of grant applications.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with water resources, policy, and strategic initiatives.
- Knowledge of regional issues including hydrology, geology, climate, politics, demographics, and economics.
- Experience in conducting research, data collection and analysis, and the skills necessary to effectively communicate findings to support the planning, project management, public outreach and facilitation capacities of the position.
- Knowledge of Minnesota’s watershed approach and experience writing comprehensive watershed management planning.
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Engineering and four (4) years of relevant experience.
- Substitutions of substantial directly relevant experience for the Bachelor’s Degree requirement will be considered.
