What are the responsibilities and job description for the US Controller position at ISI Group of Companies?
Insurance Supermarket Inc (“ISI”) is a rapidly growing, North American InsurTech company and is looking to add a seasoned US-focused Finance professional to their team.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Director of Financial Reporting, the US Controller will take a lead role in managing the operations and structure of the US finance function of the company. This role will support a comprehensive financial and management accounting service to all functional areas of the company, ensuring appropriate financial corporate policies, guidelines and procedures are maintained. The US Controller will have the opportunity to work with the all levels of the finance function (including the CFO and VP of Finance) to scale the US finance function in line with the growth and long term goals of ISI.
ISI US was launched in January of 2021 has seen exceptional growth is a very short period of time. As ISI continues to penetrate the new market, the opportunity continues to impress. ISI has proven that the Canadian business model is highly portable and resonates well with the US customer base.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain monthly, quarterly and annual trial balance and provide to the Director of Financial Reporting
- Support the Director of Finance as they take the lead on preparation of quarterly FP&A and Board reporting, including but not limited to MD&A, budget to actuals and progress on select projects
- Manage US treasury function and work closely with Director of Finance in maintaining optimal cross border cash balances
- Manage key routine transactions such as US payroll as well as the accounts payable function
- Support the Director of Financial Reporting with all accounting, auditing and finance related compliance functions related to the company
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable federal, provincial, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
- Support the budget and forecasting processes
- Work with other members of the finance team to deliver business analysis supporting the board presentations, accounting and other regular company reporting
- Identify efficiency in processes and implement changes to support the growth of business
Key Attributes
- Experience with reporting requirements of a mid-sized US public or private company
- A CPA accounting designation combined with 5 years of financial leadership experience
- Relationship builder who inspires trust and confidence internally and externally
- Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and executive presence with the ability to engage and motivate staff. Strong track record building, leading and mentoring high-performing teams
- The ability to present financial analytics in a clear and concise manner
- Proactive thinker that can relate corporate initiatives to the impact on the finance function
- Ability to adapt and adopt new methods and create new processes to suit the growing business environment
- Demonstrate responsibility by ensuring accounting records are complete and accurate
- Experience with US federal and state tax, payroll and other common regulatory filing requirements
- Experience with NetSuite ERP system and experience with insurance or financial services are desirable
